Why do pregnant women need chiropractic care?
Pregnancy is one of the most exciting times in a woman's life. Pregnancy is supposed to be a time of enjoyment and bliss as you prepare for the arrival of your little bundle(s) of joy. The changes of pregnancy may create uncomfortable and unenjoyable times for mommy-to-be, but chiropractic care can help to eliminate or reduce some of those not so fun times.
A developing fetus will only be as healthy as the mother that is carrying it. This includes what the mother consumes and the stresses that her body endures. The American Pregnancy Association states that "misaligned spines and joints can lead to protruding abdomen and increased back curve, pelvic changes, and postural adaptations."
The pelvis is very important in the development of the fetus. If the pelvis is out of alignment, it can lead to SI joint dysfunction and intrauterine constraint, which reduces the amount of room a developing fetus can use to grow. If intrauterine constraint is present, it may also make it more difficult for the baby to get in the proper position for delivery. Chiropractic care can help remove torsion of the ligaments that support the uterus thus potentially reducing aberrant tension to the woman’s uterus.
Chiropractic benefits pregnant women!
Now that you know that pregnant women and their fetus need chiropractic, what are the added benefits? The American Pregnancy Association lists the following as the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy:
1. Maintain a healthier pregnancy
2. Control symptoms of nausea
3. Reduce the time of labor and delivery
4. Relieve low back, neck, and joint pain
5. Prevent possible cesarean delivery
Chiropractic care can directly benefit the mother and unborn fetus. Dr. Trent has a vast amount of knowledge and postgraduate, clinical experience in adjusting pregnant moms, as well as babies that are only days old. In our office, we also utilize Webster's Technique. Webster's Technique is recognized as the go-to technique for pregnant moms. The ICPA states that, "the Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI joint dysfunction. In so doing neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is improved."
